2023 Anderson mtb

Calling all Anderson County riders! For student-athletes entering grades 6-12 during the 2023-24 school year…Come ride with Anderson MTB! This fall we will ride and race in the South Carolina Interscholastic League. Our goal is for students to have fun, enjoy the outdoors, and develop a lifelong love of biking. There are no tryouts. Everyone rides regardless of ability or skill level. Racing is optional and not required to join the team.

Athletes will compete in cross-country style racing based on National Interscholastic Cycling League standards. This is a fall sport beginning in July and ending in November. Many student-athletes compete in other fall sports and practice with us throughout the season.

All NICA coaches and ride leaders receive background checks and are trained per NICA standards in safety, concussion awareness, and risk management.

*** Parents (or any adults) are welcome to ride with the team once they have completed a background check and basic training for the Level 1 coaching certification. This NICA rule is intended to protect the safety of the athletes. It’s a small effort to complete the requirements and, as a member of the team, you’ll have a blast riding with your child! ***

Practices: This year we will practice at 6:00 PM on Tuesdays at The Civic Center of Anderson and Saturday mornings from approximately 9:00-12 at nearby trail systems.

Communication: We will use Spond for all team management and communications. Spond shows practice, race and event schedules and allows team members, coaches and parents to communicate with each other. Contact a coach to join our Spond group.

Registration: All students and coaches register in the Pit Zone. Contact a coach for registration details.

Estimated Costs:

Equipment: Riders need to have their own mountain bike and are required to wear helmets and closed-toe shoes when riding. Gloves and sunglasses are suggested. Riders must bring their own spare tube, mini-pump or inflator, and water to all practices. Each rider is responsible for maintaining their mountain bike.

Racing: Racing is optional but encouraged! Parents and students are responsible for providing transportation to and from all races. Many families and coaches camp on-site at the races.
